The JP Sessions are four multimedia events, in which Candytoe worked with installations, performances, videos, games, and augmented reality to tell the story of the fictional Zurich banker Jean-Pierre Frischknecht via a multi-channel headphone system.
Candytoe addresses events in the financial sector, in cult-like closed associations, the nostalgic romanticization of one’s own and collective past, and, in particular, communication channels between different living beings. The events took place in locations appropriate to Jean-Pierre’s story and favorite haunts: the first in an office of Longstreet Capital Group, the second in the Stadtkloster Zurich, the third in a Zurich bar, and the fourth in a branch office of Longstreet Capital Group.
#1 - Who are the others?
In the first JP session, we meet Zurich banker Jean-Pierre Frischknecht (JP) in his office. He works for Longstreet Capital Group. He uses his eloquence to win over potential clients in phone calls. He discusses his sleep problems with his doctor, Emelie Hofer, who has been treating him since his former doctor, Johannes Hofer, retired. A mysterious phone call changes everything.
#2 - Hypnotic slaygod is calling you
After Jean-Pierre Frischknecht (JP) comes home from work, he realizes that his apartment in the Primetower has been broken into. His best friend, an underwater creature named Shark, has been kidnapped. Instead of meeting his doctor Emelie Hofer, he drifts into a cult-like world. There, he is hypnotized and learns about the Boltzmann brain, the GOAT.
Boltzmann brain: Hello Jean-Pierre, I’m the Boltzmann brain. You’ve probably heard of me. My microbiome is home to animals that I send out to humanity. Your friend, the Shark, is one of them. In receptive humans, this leads to a symbiosis between the animals and themselves. In your case, this process was about to be completed. Humanity will only be able to survive in this symbiosis. It is up to you, Jean-Pierre, to find the Shark and give humanity an understanding of alliances across species boundaries.
#3 - The GOAT is materializing
Jean-Pierre Frischknecht (JP) interviews Boltzmann brain at the Gotthard Bar. He learns that the Akash Clan is threatening the entire universe. JP is determined to stop the clan.
Boltzmanm brain: Akash is dangerous. It is an occult clan living in the subconscious part of me. It is the glitch in the system, the only thing in this universe I can’t control. They are planning to leave Mizraim. They want to destroy me and with that all life. There is no existence besides myself! I might have to punish them with a few more plagues.
#4 - Be prepared Akash!
Jean-Pierre Frischknecht (JP) returns to the office. At a branch office of Longstreet Capital Group, he wants to gather his strength to eliminate the Akash clan. A reunion with his doctor, Emelie Hofer, brings an unexpected twist.
Johannes Hofer: Whoever is able to draw this sword from the stone is the blessed one and will be richly endowed. But rest assured: Anyone who fails in this attempt will perish miserably.
